Hi Dale,

When connecting sensitive data wires such as RX, TX and CAN wires, it is highly preferable to strip & tap into to the wire and perform a strong twist around the wire. This insures proper data transmission. Solder too can effect data transmission as the solder itself may change the impedance on the wire. When using T-taps, you may accidentally catch and tear some of the wires and this does happen quite often without even knowing. The wrong size of the T-tap may effect as well. When using a T-tap size that is too big for the wire causes improper connection or a loose connection. Also, there is a limit to how much contact is made to the wire itself and some wire may be left exposed. Exposed wire, in the long run, causes the wire to oxidize and eventually corrode causing the wire becomes less conductive with time.
