EVO-ALL and 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT PTS

+2 votes
Good afternoon,

Bottom line up front: EVO-ALL won't start my 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT push to start.

Details:I recently purchased an EVO-ALL to use as a remote start solution, without requiring a separate remote starter add-on (the website shows I can use it this way for my vehicle).  I also purchased a Flashlink unit to update the EVO-ALL to the latest stable/recommended version, without issues.

Using the Fortin diagram for wiring, it appears that several wires that would be connected to a remote starter simply aren't connected at all, such as the starter wire, parking lights, etc.  I successfully programmed the EVO-ALL for my 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT, and connected the wires as per the Fortin guide.  I also consulted the Wirecolor guide, which showed both those same wires that I connected, as well as the seemingly unneeded wires that would connect to a remote starter.

Using the Fortin install guide, I successfully programmed the EVO-ALL when it was connected to my vehicle, but it will not remote start my vehicle.  When I push the lock button, the blue LED lights up.  When I push the OEM keyfob 3x times, the red LED lights up, then the yellow LED lights up, then nothing at all.  The vehicle doesn't start.  No ignition, no crank, no start....nothing but LED activity on the EVO-ALL and door locks.

I've used the online troubleshooting guide, and that didn't provide any helpful solutions.

Do you have any idea why this might be the case?  Are those wires that I didn't connect still required, since I am not using a separate remote starter?  If so, how do I connect them?  The Fortin install guide assumes the user has a remote starter, and doesn't provide wiring instructions for someone who is NOT using one.  The Wirecolor install guide also assumes the user has a separate remote starter module.

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this.  My wife is eagerly awating her birthday present!

**By the way....I have the exact same problem with a second EVO-ALL for my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe PTS...same issue, same circumstances, same result (won't start).  I didn't want to make another post for this one, but he service number for this EVO-ALL is 001A06430027.

Your EVOALL will not start your vehicle without a seperate remote starter. The Elantra GT PTS is not listed for 3x lock anywhere on our website.

You will need a seperate remote starter or you can get a EVOONE and everything is inside one box, and you keep the wiring you have already installed.

Same thing for your Santa Fe.

Well, that answers my question.  Now that I know a little more about these devices I can clearly see on the product page for my vehicle that "Remote Start" has an "N/A" underneath the EVO-ALL.

Did I waste my money by buying two EVO-ALL units, or is there some benefit that I would not have otherwise gotten by just installing an EVO ONE?  I've already installed one in each of my Hyundais, so I have no intention of removing them after all that effort.

Since my wife and I really want remote start capability without paying the ridiculously expensive annual fee for BlueLink, I will purchase two EVO-ONE units.  The products look great and installing them was a nice project.

Thanks for the quick response.

The EVO-ONE has a built in EVO-ALL. Since you already have the EVO-ALL installed, in both the vehicles, it may be just simpler to purchase a remote starter only brain. Example of this would be the Crimestopper Coolstart series (they also come with remotes).

If you go the EVO-ONE route, you will not need the EVO-ALL anymore and make sure to get a compatible RF-KIT (or check to see if the EVO-ONE would have the Fortin remotes included).

i just want to add that switching to an EVO-ONE, the connectors for the bypass portion are the same as on the EVO-ALL. Whatever is plugged into the EVO-ALL at the moment, will plug straight into the EVO-ONE. Your installation is already half done and would only require a few more connections.
Darn.  I see that the EVO ONE is not available for sale via the Fortin website, so the Crimestopper Cool Start series might be the quickest route to success.

I know this isn't the Crimestopper support page, but do you know if the Cool Start RS-00G5 or RS1-G5 units are compatible with my two push to start Hyundai vehicles?  I can't find any confirmation on their product pages.  The Fortin site made this much easier to determine (if only I'd read the product capabilities correctly the first time...).

Robert, thank you for helping me with this and walking through the requirements.  I am not a professional installer but I enjoy challenging projects.  I'm not saying your products are necessarily challenging to install or use, it's just that I haven't done it before.  Now that I know I can pass my novice advice to my friends and recommend Fortin products!  You guys are professionals.

Remote starter unit's typically don't really need to have a compatibility page. I can't really find a good example, maybe it's the lack of coffee in my blood at the moment, but think of remote starter units as a switch for your lights at home. There is no specific house that requires a specific switch with a specific firmware. (there are some specifics for some vehicles but it's mainly a question of high current vs low current capable remote starters).

Both units you mentionned from Crimestopper would work on your vehicle. I would personnaly recommend the RS1-G5 since it comes with those sleek 1 button remotes. Since it's the same brain as the RS00, you can always add the OEM start feature later on.

As for the EVO-ONE, the unit is only available through distribution.

Thanks, Robert. Looking at the various Crime Stopper Cool Start models, I think I'm going to go with the RS4-G5 since it offers the trunk pop option. If I could just get rid of the OEM remotes completely and only use the Crime Stopper RF remotes, that would be awesome. Having two fobs hanging off my keychain is a bit much, but I imagine my vehicles won't start without my proximity keys so I'll have to get used the added bulk.
No problem!

you will have a hard trying to start your car without the proximity keys with you.

i have a question for you. If you start your car normally, can you pop the trunk with the oem remotes? Because if you cant, it most likely will not work off the aftermarket either. A lot of vehicles do not allow the trunk to be opened via the remote (original or not) when the engine is running. So this technically would negate needing the 5 button remote. The 1 button remote would be more than enough.

I am quoting myself because i may be wrong at the fact the trunk would not open while the vehicle is started (or remote started) on the Elantra GT. It's a wired connection and not through data, the trunk may actually work off the crimestopper remotes. I'll have more info tomorrow, I am honestly drawing a blank right now.

Great point!  Neither of my Hyundais will pop the trunk while it's running.  The lack of trunk pop is not a big deal, especially since I'll have to have the OEM remotes anyways, which do have trunk pop buttons.

For anyone interested, the 2013 Elantra GT's OEM remote doesn't actually pop the trunk (since it's not motorized), it just unlocks it without having to unlock the rest of the car.

Based on this new information I am going to go with the Crime Stopper Cool Start RS1-G5, the single button model you recommend.  The RS3-G5 looks like it adds unlock/lock buttons as well, which wouldn't be useful for me.  I suppose that's for vehicles without proximity keyfobs that have to be on hand for the vehicle to operate.

Again, thank you for the information and assistance.  I'll definitely post an update once I install the RS1-G5 units in my two Hyundais, connected to the EVO-ALL's that I already installed.
