How to use the key dcryptor?

+1 vote

Hi,

I have a 2014 Subaru WRX STi hatchback and am installing the EVO-ALL along with the Advanced Keys keyless entry and push start button system. I'm still in the planning stages to do the actual install and have been unable to find the documentation for the process of learning the key code that is mentioned on this page. I have the TB-SUBARU2 transponder bypass as well.

I couldn't see in the documentation or in the flash link manager on how to do this.

Is Fortin able to outline the steps needed to perform this.

Thanks,

Greg

The EVO-ALL appears to be only used as a interface with the car, the TB-SUBARU2 Is used as the bypass and connected to the EVO. If you compare the 2 guides you will see that dcryptor is not used. According to the TB-SUBARU2 Guide, you will need a trip to the dealership to complete the process. Hope this helps.

What do I ask the dealership to perform? I got a little confused as I thought using the Flash Link Manager allowed me to not have to go to the dealership as the info on the software page didn't say that only certain vehicles support that feature. Thanks, Greg

The page you have linked is of the Flash-Link Manager software which allows users to update modules with vehicle specific firmwares; this is available for every vehicle.

The DCryptor on the other hand is a technology used to "decrypt" transponder keys and requires the Flash-Link Manager so that the key information can be sent to our servers for decryption. This technology is not for every type of transponder since all manufactures have their own type of encryption. Vehicles compatible with the DCryptor technology can be found here.

Also, when a vehicle is compatible with the DCryptor, it will be listed as a compatible feature when you do a vehicle search; which unfortunately is not available for an Subaru.

What do I ask the dealership to perform?

The dealer needs to program the TB-Subaru2 as if they were programming a new key to the vehicle.

On another note, keep in mind that most Subarus come with 3 keys. A common way of doing a transponder bypass on Subaru will be to do a key-wrap as outlined in the EVO-ALL installing guide. EVO-ALL & Subaru - Revision 20140530

It is highly recommended to have any aftermarket system installed by professionals who do this on a daily basis.

Regards,

Thanks for the information, Robert.
One last question on this ;-)

Can I fully install the TB-SUBARU2 behind the dash panels and just have the antenna looped around the key barrel when I take it to the dealership for programming?
Better to have it out. Look on page 2, the module needs to be put beside the cylinder during the learn routine.
